1st Meeting of the ad hoc Expert Group on the arrangements of the Secretariat of the Convention was held on 18-19 December in Baku

The ad hoc Expert Group on the arrangements of the Secretariat was established by the Decision of the Ministerial Consultations of the Caspian Littoral States in September 2023. The main goal of the Expert Group is to prepare draft documents on the arrangements of the Secretariat of the Convention.

The 5th Caspian Sea BRAVO Exercise under the Aktau Protocol was held on 14 November 2023

Bravo exercise on Alarm and Communication exercise was held under the leadership of Turkmenistan with support of the Tehran Convention interim Secretariat. The representatives of the Lead State provided a description of the incident scenario and outlined the goals and objectives for representatives of the Contracting Parties during the exercise.

The Working Group on Meeting and Assessment met on 7 November 2023

The Working Group on Monitoring and Assessment held an online meeting to review and discuss the list of marine parameters indispensable for a proper description of the state of the Caspian environment and agree on the next steps to be taken towards the implementation of the updated Environment Monitoring Programme.

Moscow Protocol to the Tehran Convention enters into force

On 13 November 2023 the Protocol for the Protection of the Caspian Sea against Pollution from Land-based Sources and Activities to the Tehran Convention ("Moscow Protocol") entered into force. This is a crucial step in consolidating the efforts of all five Caspian littoral States towards prevention and elimination of marine pollution from land-based sources and activities.

Turkmenistan celebrates the Caspian Sea Day 2023

Caspian Sea Day is celebrated by the Caspian littoral countries annually on 12 of August – the day the Tehran Convention came into force in 2006. This year, festive activities were held in Turkmenistan on 11 and 12 of August.
