Internship Opportunity with the Tehran Convention Secretariat in Geneva

This six-month internship provides a unique chance to gain hands-on experience in international environmental governance, project development, and intergovernmental cooperation in one of the world’s most exceptional marine ecosystems – the Caspian Sea.

Under the supervision of the UNEP Regional Coordinator and in collaboration with the Tehran Convention Officer, the intern will assist with:

• Programme and project support related to the implementation of the Tehran Convention and its Protocols, including resource mobilization, drafting of concept notes and communications, and support to ongoing projects such as the UNDP–UNEP joint project on marine litter and the UN-Habitat/UNEP/IOM project on climate resilience in Azerbaijan;

• Preparation of the Scientific Conference “Changes in the Caspian Sea Level: Causes, Modeling, Adaptation Strategies” (May 2026), including coordination of abstracts and short papers, editorial assistance, and conference logistics;

• Research and communications tasks, including maintaining website content, drafting outreach materials, and supporting online meetings of the Contracting Parties of the Convention.

Applicants should be enrolled in or have recently completed a degree in Environmental Law, International Law, Political Science, or International Relations, with strong analytical, communication, and drafting skills. Fluency in English is required, and knowledge of Russian is an asset.

Please note that UN internships are not remunerated, and selected candidates are responsible for their own travel and living arrangements in Geneva.
