Student Competition Calls for Young Researchers to Address Environmental Challenges of the Caspian Sea
The Secretariat of the Framework Convention for the Protection of the Marine Environment of the Caspian Sea (Tehran Convention) is pleased to announce the launch of the Student Competition dedicated to addressing pressing environmental issues affecting the Caspian Sea.

About the Competition
The Caspian Sea, the world’s largest inland water body, is a vital ecological and economic resource for the five littoral states: Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Russia, and Turkmenistan. However, it faces growing threats from climate change, pollution, biodiversity loss, and unsustainable development. To engage the next generation of scientists and policymakers, this competition invites Bachelor’s and Master’s students from Caspian-region universities to submit research papers proposing solutions to these challenges.
Who Can Participate?
The competition is open to students from natural sciences (ecology, marine biology, hydrology, etc.) and socio-economic disciplines (environmental law, economics, sustainable development, etc.). Participants must submit an original research paper (max. 3,000 words) analyzing a specific environmental issue in the Caspian Sea, supported by scientific or socio-economic evidence. The paper can be submitted in English or Russian language.
